Dog Day Afternoon

The moment I met my guy, I knew my life was about to change for the better. Almost nine years later, I am so freaking happy that I was right. The thing about love is, is that when you find the right person, you also happen to find all of the people you always wanted and needed.
For me, I am beyond blessed and grateful that this has been true, because I was able to fall in love with his pup-Jeeves. When Jeeves came barking into my life he was five years old, the tiniest little Ewok-looking Yorkie I had ever seen, and the absolute cutest. He had the biggest personality ever (and still does), was incredibly overprotective of Andrew, and did not mess around when it came to strangers walking into his territory. I was the stranger and his bark was the welcome I had been searching and hoping for.
It might sound silly to say, given that he is a dog and can't physically speak to me, but somehow in Jeeves' eyes, the day I met him, I knew we would be best buds. If my memory serves me right it did not take long for us to get along and before I knew it, I was babysitting him whenever his dad was away. The early days of getting to know Andrew were also the days that I was getting to know Jeeves, and you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their pets.
To say that Jeeves is the most important part of our lives is a gross understatement. Some people have children and feel this way about them, and some people have pets and care for them, quite possibly, even more than any human. This is how we are and I wouldn't change a thing about that.
Today, on National Dog Day, I look over to our little guy laying in his bed and feel a warmth of love shower me. I can recall every moment that Jeeves has been there for me, the times he has cuddled up under my arm because he knew I was sad or having a rough day. I also look at the way he is with Andrew and the way their love is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Dogs, they are true gifts to this world and I don't know what I would ever do without ours.

When nothing else seems to be going right in the world, as long as Jeeves is near, I know the darkness is only temporary. Every day that he is around, that I get to wake up and hug him and smell his dog smell that I love so much, I know that everything is going to be okay. The best gifts in life are the ones we never even asked for, the ones that showed up when we least expected it, and the ones that continue to stay through all of life's twists.
Happy National Dog day to our main pup Jeeves, the brightest light in my life, and the absolute love of so many. Thank you Bave for choosing me and letting me into the circle of you and Jeeves.
To all the dogs in the world that bring complete joy to those they touch-you are the best thing ever created.

Kim
