In My Life
Music is the gatekeeper to my soul. In moments when I need clarity, there are always those songs I turn to that speak loudly to my heart. For this, I am eternally grateful for the music of my heart.

There's something about music that makes sense. For some, it's the music that speaks more to them and for others it's the words entwined with the sounds that they feel. I like to think that I am the latter. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm a writer at heart and a small every-so-often poet. Words just hit me with this incredible force I can't seem to control and though not every song speaks true to my life, I still appreciate them.
Take this song for example: 'In My Life,' by The Beatles. I am one of millions of people in the world who love The Beatles and I obviously love their original version. But when I stumbled upon a cover sung by one of my favorite leading ladies, Bette Midler, it took on a whole new meaning for me. And thus, I've been hearing it on repeat constantly. Here are my favorite lines:
But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you. And these memories lose their meaning, when I think of love as something new. Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them. In my life, I love you more.
I love this song for an array of reasons, mainly because of what it means to me. Songs have this amazing and unique ability to mean something different to all of us, however they always provide the same affect; truth. That's what this song means to me.
In my life I've loved many people, whether romantically or not. They will always make up part of my journey, so the affection I have for them for helping me get to where I am now, remains. Yet, there is just one person in my life who no one else can compare to, whose love is grander than those who came before, and I smile, knowing that that person is in my life.
Another song I came upon by chance, or really by being an avid albeit not so crazy fan of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. This season on The Bachelorette, Dolly Parton came out and sang a special song for Emily and her date. It's called, 'From Here to the Moon and Back,' and it's perfection for all those in love. It goes something like this:
I want you to know you can always depend, on promises made and love without end. No need to wonder how faithful I'll be, now and on into eternity. From here to the moon and back, who else in this world will love you like that? Forever and always, I'll be where you're at, from here to the moon and back. From here to the moon and back.
Ah....the beauty of music. Where would I be without it? I'm not a musician, but I know I don't have to be to appreciate music in its entirety. Since I was a young girl in Texas, I've lived off of music and it holds a very special place in my heart. I never would've thought for a second that music would lead me to the love I've found. But I guess the universe has a strange way of working things out when you least expect it.
In my life I've seen and felt many things and I'm still standing. My story is only told to those closest to me and someday I hope that I'll find the courage to share it with all of you. I feel very much at peace today and these weeks of not working have completely altered my state of mind.
I must admit that I was scared beyond belief to be off of work for three weeks, but in a reversal that I least expected, it has made me feel calmer and more sane. I guess taking a nice break to wind down and be still with yourself truly does make life more relaxing.
To all the lovers of music. You know how I feel.
